Markings for 7 aircraft |
This new sheet from Victory Productions provides markings for seven different late-model F4U-5/5N and AU-1 Corsairs. The sheet was originally designed by Jennings Heilig (with a little photo help from yours truly), so you know the quality of design is excellent. The sheet was going to be released by his company, Airway Graphics, which he sold earlier this year to Victory Hobbies.
For F4U-5Ns, the sheet provides accurate markings for Guy Bordelon's well-known Corsair in which he became the only Navy ace of the Korean War in 1953. There is also a set of markings for another VC-3 F4U-5N, flying from the U.S.S. Princeton, and an overall black VMF-513 F4U-5N, with the red markings in the correct color and proper size. Additionally, the sheet provides correct markings for Capt. Fernando Soto's F4U-5NL from the Honduran-Salvadoran "Soccer War" of 1969. Finally, there are markings for an F4U-5N flown by the Argentine naval air force 1956-66.
For the AU-1, the sheet provides an overall Glossy Sea Blue version from VMA-212 Lancers in Korea in 1953, and the well-known Light Gull Grey/Glossy White airplane flown by Col. John Bolt at Quantico in 1957. While these markings are the same as those in the new Hasegawa AU-1 kit, the overall quality and accuracy of the decals is far superior to those provided in the kit.
This sheet is highly recommended for anyone contemplating building the Hasegawa Corsairs, and is really the only after-market item the kits really need.
