PHEON DECALS:  SPAD VII LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE
by

Pheon Decals are a new company in the UK that has started to release highly-accurate, well-researched decals of World War One subjects in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scale.  The decals have the best and most accurate color I have seen.

Their first 1/32 sheet is for the Roden SPAD VII C.1, and provides markings for 14 aircraft.  Eight of these were flown by the Lafayette Escadrille, and two were flown by the 103rd Aero Squadron, the unit the Lafayette Escadrille became when they transferred into the U.S. Army Air Service.  Five of the aircraft are in overall doped linen, with five in the four-color French camouflage adopted in mid-1917.

The instructions are a book in themselves, with full detail on each aircraft and the pilot who flew it.  All the research a modeler would need to create an accurate model of the subject matter is provided.

The decals are thin, with excellent register.  They go on easily and do not adhere to the first surface they touch.  I recommend them unhesitatingly.
