HISTORY

When the Me-262 was being designed, there were a number of alternatives proposed all relying on the basic Me-262 airframe. Neither one of them went much beyond the paper planning stages as better designs were developed. The 1099A was to be an all weather fighter while the 1099B was to be a three-seat destroyer aircraft. Revell Germany released two kits, the P.1099 in 1996 and the P.1099B/I in 1998. These are heavy fighters with the Me-262A's wings and tail section but with greatly enlarged fuselages.

THE KIT

The kit is in typical Revell Germany medium grey. It is finely molded and completely flash free. There are a couple of sink marks in the bulkhead section where the plastic is quite thick. The detailing in the cockpit and wheel wells is very good, especially for a kit of this price. Both the 1099 and 1099B share the same sprues, with the 1099B having one extra for the additional guns and nose turret. In fact, if Revell had provided the 1099 canopy with the 1099B kit, it seems one could have made either version.

Looking at the image above are all the parts for the 1099B. The sprue on the right is the one that is specific for the 1099B. If you have built the Revell Germany Me-262 kit, then you know you are in for a treat when building this kit. I look forward to having a full review of one of them for you in the coming weeks. #9;
