Self
publishing is becoming more and more a common way to put out a book to the
public. In addition, there is a growing fondness for on-line books where one can
download a publication. In this way, there is no need to take up space with a
paper copy.
This latest edition from AeroArchives Press covers post WWII US projects covering aircraft that can carry other aircraft, carry a variety of external weapons or cargo pods or air carry missiles. Most of the major airframe manufacturers did studies on a variety of airframes and methods, with one actually making it into operational service, albeit only for a very short time.
This book comprises 204 pages
that contain 258 drawings, artist’s impressions and
photos, including 27 in color. Most of the drawings come from the archives of
the various manufacturers, with Douglas seeming to have done a considerable
amount of work in this area as well over half the book is full of Douglas
projects. Thanks to some good luck, the manufacturers models of several of these
projects have remained extant and give a superb look at what could have been.
Several of the drawings presented are large, landscape images, providing a
considerable amount of detail.
I found it to be a fascinating look at some of America's 'Secret Projects' and I'm sure you will feel the same way. The excellent illustrations and images make for a most interesting book. If you have an interest in paper projects, then this is a must have for you.
