Considered by many to be the Soviet Fokker F.27, the series of Antonov Turboprop Twins was built in larger numbers and has had at least as long a service life of the Dutch feederliner. Originally developed to provide a replacement for the Li-2 and IL-14 twin airliners in service during the 50's, the AN-24 had a relatively smooth development and service introduction.

Later developed into the AN-26 cargo transport, AN-30 aerial photo aircraft and AN-32 high altitude aircraft, this family of turboprops is still plying its trade wit many of the world's airlines and military services.

Red Star's latest book follows a familiar format in its 128 pages. After an introduction to the type, there follows a detailed history of the development of the An-24 and the other versions developed from it. Each variant is given a small section which describes any differences from the other sub-types. There is also a section describing airlines that have operated or are currently operating the type as well as a section on combat operations.

14 pages of full color and 3 pages of three views help to illustrate the aircraft and add interest to modelers. Overall, an excellent book on the type and a super addition to any library, especially if one's interest is in Soviet/Russian aircraft.
