This is the latest in the popular Walk Around series from Squadron/Signal and concentrates on a favorite of many, the Bf-109E.

It follows a tried and true format of combining photos of museum aircraft with period images to provide us with a comprehensive look at the subject in question. This time the aircraft chosen from the museums are an ex-Spanish AF Bf-109E-3 that is in the Deutches Museum at Munich, and an ex-Swiss AF 109E-3 that is in the Swiss Museum at Dubendorf. The Swiss aircraft is somewhat different from the normal run-of-the-mill 109s as there was the installation of some Swiss-only equipment in this plane that makes for some notable changes.

There is a brief historical section on the various subtypes and I note that the author has continued the misconception that all the E-1 variants were built before E-3 production got underway when it has been pretty well established by numerous other sources that these variants were built at the same time. Other than that, things seem pretty much in line with current thinking on the type. There are also a number of fine color profiles of aircraft that are pretty much standard fare. Of the period photos there are some that I don't recall seeing before, so that is a nice surprise.

As with the others in the series, there are oodles of close up images of various bits and pieces of the aircraft so the book will be a real boon to the super detailer and I know I could have used this one when doing a recent 109E build!

Overall, a super edition and one that I can highly recommend. I'm sure it will sell very well!
