We all like F-4s and this one covers a couple of the early versions. The best kit for this is the ProModeler boxing of the Hasegawa 1/48 kit. The reason being is that this is an early, unslatted F-4E with the early gun muzzle. Both are in the standard SEA (South East Asia) scheme of FS 30219, 34102, 34079 over FS 36622. Both aircraft have a story behind them and I'll save that for when you get the sheet. I should mention that the instruction sheet states that -551 didn't have the red turbine stripe when in actuality, it was -339 that didn't have it. The photos (if you can see them well enough) do show -551 with the stripe. I should mention that -551 went on to be modified into an F-4G and survived long enough to be retired with the rest of the F-4G fleet.
Briefly, 68-0339 was coded LC and attached to the 421 TFS/366 TFW,
69-7551 was coded JV and was with the 469 TFS/388 TFW.
You get enough markings to do both aircraft and for those of you who don't like painting canopy rails, the red surround to -0339's canopy is provided. If you want to put on all the data decals, you'll have to find a dedicated sheet for that, but from the look of the photos, these were not festooned with them as I've seen on other Phantoms.
Review sheet courtesy of my pal, Don Logan. Thanks, Don!
