To me, one of the best kits to be released in the last several years has been the Revell 1/32 Hawker Hunter. The kit is superbly done and is of an aircraft that most aviation enthusiasts will include in the top ten jets of all time. Yet, it has not sold well past its initial issue and it is a real mystery as to why that is the case. Even on the show circuit around here, in the last three/four years I've been attending shows, I've seen but one. Frankly, I'm stymied and I'm sure Revell is as well. So is Aeromaster as it produced four great sheets for this plane back in 1998 and they have also not done as well as one would have hoped.
This is the fourth sheet of the series and includes three aircraft. Basically, what you have are insignia and unique markings since they are so large. Aeromaster did a separate sheet for data stencils. All of these are for variants of the RAF FGA.9. Whenever the Brits sell an aircraft overseas, it gets a very high mark number; one that the original plane would never meet.
First on this sheet is a Swiss F.58. Those of you lucky enough to have the Revell AG kit can use these markings to replace those in the kit. However, at this early stage, there was almost no difference externally between it and the FGA.9 kit that is sold in the US, so we can also do a Swiss plane if we choose. This one is in standard RAF colors, that being dark sea grey, dark green over medium sea grey. I will caution the modeler about this underside color as it may well be painted aluminum vice the medium sea grey. I highly recommend checking reference photos when doing early planes in the standard scheme.
Next is a Singapore F.74 of 141 Squadron. It is in the earlier (and to my tastes, nicer) markings with dark earth replacing the upper dark sea grey. You'll note that this plane carries no wing markings.
Finally an Indian AF F.56 in standard markings. I don't know the unit and the sheet doesn't tell me, so if a reader knows, it would be nice info to have.
