As most of you know, the US supplied lots of aircraft to the British under lend-lease. Included were F4F Wildcats of many different versions and variants. Some were those planes taken over when other countries fell to the Axis. Here is a nice set for those of you who want your Wildcats in F.A.A. markings. The sheet contains enough decals for all five aircraft, not a difficult thing to do since there is little other than insignia and codes!

The first plane is a Martlet I from 804 Sq in the Orkney Islands around 1940. These aircraft had non-folding wings. This particular version has the port wing lower surfaces painted black as was the norm for fighters at this time. It is in the standard upper colors of Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey but has Sky Blue undersides.

From 881 squadron comes this Martlet II from 1942. This plane has standard paint on all surfaces, including the Sky undersides.

In a desert scheme is this 805 Martlet III from 1941. It is painted Midstone upper and US Non-Specular Grey on the undersides. This aircraft came from US Navy stocks.

The Wildcat V from 890 Sq in mid 1944 is part of the Indian/Pacific Ocean forces. It has the early SEAC roundels with very small white centers and the standard camo scheme.

Finally this Wildcat VI (or FM-2) from 853 Sq in the North Atlantic during 1945. It is in standard paint and also has a small nose art; most unusual for Royal Navy aircraft.

Suggested kits are the Tamiya version with whatever mods are needed to make it a Martlet. The new Sword FM-2 can be used, but be advised that this kit needs a bit of work itself.
