The F-80 hasn't had much in the way of coverage when it comes to decal sheet. Probably because there are so few kits available for this pioneering American jet fighter. Face it; in 1/48 you are limited to the Monogram version and that isn't exactly a new kit. It is also a bit difficult to build when compared to new kits and hasn't been reissued in the US for quite some time. However, it is not difficult to find and can be had for a reasonable price.
First up is a 36 FBS/8 FBG aircraft with a very nice nose art. This aircraft as well as most of the others is carrying the Misawa tanks that gave the F-80 sufficient range to operate out of Japan against Korean targets.
Next is the very frequently done 'The Spirit of the Hobo' from the 80 FBS/8 FBG. Unlike the other planes, this one has the smaller wing tanks .
From the 35 FBS/8 FBG is 'Salty Dog'.
Finally, another 35 FBS Shooting Star is 'Ramblin=Reck=TEW' (hey, I don't know what it means either). This plane actually shot down a North Korean IL-10 in July of 1950. Note that there are two blue tail bands. This one gets the one with the black stripe outline to match the nose.
If you have a Monogram F-80 that is awaiting some different markings, you now have an excuse to build it!
