Reich Defense Pt VI |
Continuing in its series on Reich Defense aircraft, this particular sheet is dedicated to the FW-190D-9, an aircraft that was only seen in the last year of the war. Fortunately for 1/72 scale modelers, there are a number of kits available for this aircraft. Starting from the oldest to the newest, there are kits from Airfix, Hasegawa, Tamiya and now Academy. From my reading, it seems like all of them have some sort of fault, but they all do look like what they are supposed to be to a greater or lesser degree. It has been a long time since I have built one of the Airfix or Hasegawa kits and I've not built either the Tamiya or Academy versions.
This sheet has five aircraft, all in a variety of camouflage schemes.
The first is Black 10 from II./JG 26. I ti in RLM 82/81 over RLM 76 and has JG 26s black and white tail band.
White 1 is from JG 6 and is in RLM 82/75/76 with the unit's red and white tail band.
From JG 2 comes White 1, again in RLM 82/75/76. This time the RLM 74 covers much of the fuselage side, though the instructions say it is heavily mottled. JG 2s tail band was yellow and white.
Black <4 is from II./JG 6 and is camouflaged in RLM 82/75/76. There is some mottling on the aft fuselage that covers some of a white tail band.
Finally, in a mélange of colors with the mysterious RLM 84 on the underside and fuselage sides, is Black 12. This aircraft is from JG 2 and only a full reading of the painting instructions will show how many different colors are used on this plane.
Any of these schemes would look just great on your next 190D. In fact, if one were doing a series of planes based on the Reich Defense banding, you'd have three great subjects from this sheet.
