Nowadays, when nations are formed, and they decide on an air arm, one of the first aircraft that they obtain or have given to them is a helicopter. These are very handy to have not only for general policing, but also for moving light cargo, VIPs and for performing rescue. This was especially true in the forming Balkan nations that were a result of the break-up of Yugoslavia. Not surprisingly, it was the Bell Huey in its various forms that were to make up both air forces and police.

This new sheet from Balkan Models covers a variety of Hueys and schemes for five Balkan countries. Though no specific kit is mentioned in the instructions, I would be surprised if Italeri does not have us covered and I am sure that some other companies can help out as well.

The first options is a Bell 212 of the Serbian Police. Note that this one has a very large antenna on the roof and also seems to have a small radar in the nose.

Next is a UH-1H from the Bosnian and Croat Federation Air Force. This one looks to be pretty stock and is in overall olive drab.

The KFOR aircraft is a Bell 412 from the Slovenian Air Force. It is in a two color olive drab and green

In a dark blue and white scheme is a Croatian Police Bell 212. For this one, the modeler will need to paint the dark blue. The sheet includes all the white striping needed.

The next one is also in a civil scheme of light blue and white. This Macedonian Police helo is also a Bell 212, which seems to be rather popular.

The final option is also the oldest helo on the sheet. This UH-1D is from the Macedonian Air Force and judging by the red cross, is a medivac helo. The instructions note that the aft portion is in a fresher coat of OD.

The decals are superbly printed and look to be in perfect register. Instructions are beautifully printed in full color and provide four views of each of the eight options. In addition to some historical background, a comprehensive color guide is provided with nine different manufacturers being represented so you are sure to find a match. The instructions are of the fold out type.
