One aircraft that has generally been a favorite for early jet modelers is the Mig-17. It was built in large numbers and exported to a whole raft of interesting countries. This particular sheet from JBOT covers some of those countries. JBOT decals are printed on an ALPS printer. That means sharp detail, no registration problems and vivid colors. It also means that the decals are on a single carrier sheet and will need to be trimmed. Because of the nature of the inks, strong setting solutions like Solvaset and Champ are not recommended as they may damage the colors. The review copy of these decals arrived without the Bulgarian insignia though I've been assured they are included with the regular sheet.
This sheet has insignia and tactical numbers for five aircraft, each with different markings. The countries involved are Bulgaria, Angola, Albania and two from Afghanistan. One from Afghanistan prior to the Soviet invasion (with the red, white and green triangle) and the other one during that time period. The decal placement and painting guide is in full color and includes both FS and Humbrol paint numbers.
Kits for this are the Dragon/DML offering and the Hasegawa with Aeroclub vac fuselage conversion. According to those who know this plane, both kits have problems in terms of wing or fuselage. However, when built, the model looks very nice and these decals will make it just a little bit more special.
