A type that often gets little coverage from the decal folks is the F-104C. Only the early F-104s saw unit service with the USAF, the type quickly going to the ANG, while the later G models were never USAF owned airplanes, operating with the 58th TTW on behalf of NATO to train pilots.

This sheet covers the F-104 and its time in Vietnam. Though it scored no air to air kills, it did provide base defense for a number of years early on. All of these planes were with the 479 TFW and were based at either DaNang or Udorn in 1965-67. The type was camouflaged from 1966 on, at which time they wore white serial markings. These were quite soon changed to black. Along with the war paint, a lower nose RHAW antenna was added. All of the camouflaged planes on this sheet had nose names and some nose art. The silver ones did not. Caracal recommends visiting their web site to get a good idea of what the aft fuselage section looked like on the unpainted metal planes.

Here is what's on the sheet:

F-104C 56-0919, 479 TFW - Da Nang AB, 1965

F-104C 56-0892, 479 TFW - Da Nang AB, 1965

F-104C 56-0891 "NancyJ / Snoopy Sniper", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1966

F-104C 56-0892 "Miss Bevie J VI / My Darlin Dorothy", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1967

F-104C 56-0898, 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1966

F-104C 56-0910 "Pussycat", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1967

F-104C 56-0938 "Show Me", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1967

F-104C 57-0923 "Helloo Dolly", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1966

F-104C 57-0925 "Smoke II", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1966

F-104C 57-0927 "Debbie Sue", 479 TFW - Udorn AB, 1967

The decals themselves are superbly printed by Cartograf. The instructions are well done and give some additional info about the planes. There is no recommended kit, but most will go for Hasegawa, though the Monogram kit is still pretty nice. I have darkened the sheet to let the white bits stand out a bit more.
