Moving to 1/48 scale, this new Kits At War sheet covers two rather unexpected subjects: a Halifax and a Ju-52. For kits, there is the challenging F.M. Halifax and the superb Revell Ju-52, the latter probably one of the more unappreciated kits to have been done by Revell-Monogram.
The sheet includes a full set of insignia for both so little more than data markings will have to come from the kit sheet. The decals themselves are superbly printed without a hint of mis-registration by decalprint.nl. The centers to the three color roundels and the yellow surround to the fuselage roundels have been done separately to prevent registration problems.
The Ju-52 is one of a dozen planes captured from the Luftwaffe that were used by the SAAF during the war for ferry flights between South Africa and the war zone in the north. As South African Airways was already operating the type, maintenance and parts were not a major hurdle. The planes were Dark Green upper with Azure Blue undersides.
The other is 'Oscar' a Halifax B.III with 424 'Tiger' squadron, RCAF in 1943. It is in standard RAF colors for night bombers. Like the Ju-52, the plane was lost during ops.
So there you have it. Two interesting aircraft that gives one an excuse to pull out those kits and give it a go.
