Superscale has reached a real milestone; its 1000th 1/48 scale decal sheet. It is really quite an accomplishment and dates back over 30 years to the early 1970s, when then-Microscale had decided to start producing decal sheets for 1/48 scale. At that time, 1/72 was king with the vast majority of modelers building in this scale.

For their 1000th 1/48 sheet, Superscale has chosen the F-18A Hornet as flown by the Blue Angels during their 2004 show season. As has been the norm for the display teams, these are not the latest and greatest Hornets. In fact, they are some of the oldest still in the inventory, all from the 1619xx serial range.

The sheet provides a full series of serials and pilot names for any of the six aircraft and the decals are scaled for the Hasegawa F-18A kit. Interestingly, the decals are designed to be butted against each other when fitted and not overlapped, as is often the case. I do find it quite odd to see it called the 'Boeing' F/A-18 Hornet after decades of knowing it as the McDonnell/Douglas Hornet!

A really fine sheet and one that is fitting for the 1K sheet.
