Time for what seems to me to be a reissue of an earlier sheet (48-723 to be precise). There are markings on this sheet for three early war F4F-3  Wildcat aces, all of whom are pretty famous. The recommended kit is the Tamiya F4F-4 kit, but it will have to be backdated to non-folding wings and only two guns per wing. An option is the JPS F4F-3 wing conversion set, which your editor used in a build a few years back.

All of these planes are in Blue-Grey over Light Grey and have rudder stripes. I'd suggest painting the rudders white so that the red will not look a bit subdued.

The first aircraft is from John Thatch who won the US Medal of Honor flying this plane against attacking aircraft. He is also the inventor of the famous 'Thatch Weave', a defensive maneuver that allowed each pilot of a pair of aircraft to watch each others tail for enemy fighters.

Next is Butch O'Hare's Wildcat. Like John Thatch, he flew from the USS Lexington in the Battle of the Coral Sea.

The final aircraft of the trio is Scott McCuskey's F4F-3 from the USS Yorktown, also at Coral Sea.

The sheet includes wing walk areas and enough insignia for all three planes.

Additional note: According to an e-mail from Tom Gaj,

"Butch O'Hare was the Medal of Honor winner flying F-15 during Fighting Three's defense of Lexington on 20 Feb 42.  Although he was involved in the same action, Jimmy Thach was flying F-13, not his assigned F-1.
Ewing and Lundstrom's Fateful Rendezvous, The Life of Butch O'Hare has a very good description of the MoH action."
