Though we all may think that the F-18A is no longer in service, that is not true. There are a number of them operating and several of the low time airframes have been brought up to near C specs with improved avionics. These are called A+s and most are operated by the Marine Reserves (since I don't think there is much left in the way of USN reserves any more). A few other A models are operated by test units. As long as there is a type in fleet service, the test units will have at least one of each on hand. Rumors are that the F-18A will be the next drone if a full scale drone program will be funded.
Both of these planes are in the two greys TPS of FS 36320 upper and FS 36375 undersides. The sheet provided insignia and data markings for both and wing walk areas for the VMFA-142 version. Those on the VX-30 plane are grey and need to come from some other source.
The first is from VX-30 and is a normal F-18A. The fin tip and leading edge of the fin will have to be painted black and this one has the grey walkways.
The VMFA-142 is the F-18A+. Outside clues are the larger antenna on the top of the fuselage and the new, flat IFF(?) antenna just in front of the windscreen. There should be a similar one on the underside if this is indeed an IFF antenna, but none is shown. This aircraft has full color insignia.
The decals have been fitted for the Hasegawa F-18, but should also work on others with a bit of fudging.
