Here is a trio of late and post WWII Corsairs in the overall sea blue scheme. Some do not like that particular scheme saying it is too dark and boring. Personally, I like the overall blue as it is much easier to paint! This particular sheet has three aircraft on it, a pair of -1Ds and a single F4U-4. For kits, your best bet is the Tamiya kit for the -1Ds. If you recall, the biggest difference between the -1A and -1D are the twin fuselage racks for drop tanks or bombs and the provisions for underwing rocket rails. This was carried over to the more powerful F4U-4. Your only kit choice for the -4 is the old Mania kit that has been reissued a number of times by Hasegawa. Though quite old, it still holds up well. There are also resin conversions to do a -4 using a Tamiya -1D.

The first plane on the sheet is an F4U-1D from VMF-511 on the USS Block Island in the last months of the war. It has a small female nose art on it.

Next is another -1D, only this time from HQSS-22, a headquarters squadron. These squadrons were generally set up to allow for special ops and to give the brass and other chair-bound pilots something to fly to keep up their proficiency.

The final Corsair on the sheet is a post-war F4U-4 from VMF-323. It has the units coiled rattle-snake on both sides of the engine cowling. The cowling itself is in white and brown.
