Here is yet another Scooter sheet for the new Hasegawa kit and I'm pleased as punch that it is one that doesn't cost $11 as some sheets are priced. This one has two very nice schemes and ones you don't see too often.
Both aircraft are in gull grey and white. Superscale has provided the anti-glare panels so you don't have to paint those on. Each one is slightly different so make sure you use the proper one.
The first scheme is for a a VA-155 bird on the USS Ranger circa 1969. As was typical of Skyhawk units of the time, there is a unit badge on the fuselage side and the rudder is trimmed in color, this one being black. There are also tank markings, another typical unit markings. Actually, it was done to keep the other squadron from stealing their drop tanks!
Next is a VA-23 Skyhawk from 1969. This one is a CAG bird for the Commander of Air Wing 19 aboard the USS Ticonderoga. Unlike most CAG birds, this one does not have the multi-colored tail markings that one expects from that time period. I think this may be a glitch. Below is a photo of this same aircraft.
As you can see, it is the same serial number, same overall markings, but this time it has the multi-colored tail markings that should be on the CAG bird. Now I'm not positive of the date of the picture, but it is pretty close to the 1969 date given on the sheet. The choice is yours. If you want to do the CAG colors you'll have to paint them on. I have provided a closeup of the tail for this purpose. It seems that the colors are: yellow, red, blue (or perhaps green), black and then repeated with red on the bottom.
Regardless of which scheme you choose, either will be very nice and add that little extra to your kit.
