Here's number two of the new Hornet sheets. You may notice that these are also CAG birds. I don't know about you, but when I get ready to build a USN kit, I generally look for the most colorful markings I can find. Since the early 1980s when low viz schemes were in full song, that generally means the CAG birds. However, even then that is not a guarantee of lots of colors as some air wings had a 'no color' policy.
The first aircraft is from VFA-25, one of the first units to transition from the A-7E to the F-18A back in the early 1980s. This is the colorful of the two CAG birds. The tail is black with a yellow section on it. This will have to be painted on but it is a simple job that has no surprises to it. This bird has the full color insignia and a false canopy on the underside. Though the instructions don't state it, I believe that it has the longer black walk way areas.
Next is a bit more drab CAG bird from VFA-83. The only color is in the two tail decals and the tail codes on the inside. What isn't shown on the instruction sheet is that the tail is, I believe to be painted FS 36231. I can recall seeing an earlier F-18A CAG bird from this unit and it also had this color on the fins.
As with the other F-18 sheet, there is a full stencil suite for one of the two aircraft. Either scheme will look nice on your next Monogram or Hasegawa Hornet.
Please note that the sheet may look a bit short as I'll often crop off common markings to save on server space.
