The Corsair is one of the most popular modeling subject for 1/48 aircraft. Go to any show and you'll find several of them on the table. For an aircraft that has such a limited number of camouflage schemes, it amazes me how popular it is. To add to that popularity, Superscale has produced a sheet for the later F4U-4 version.

Both aircraft are Korean War veterans and in the overall sea blue scheme. Available models in 1/48 are from Academy and Hasegawa. Most will choose the Hasegawa kit as the Academy one has some shape problems in the nose area. There are also several nice resin conversions for the Tamiya F4U-1A kit for those of you who wish to go that route.

First scheme is for the VA-193 aircraft in 1953. The modeler will have to paint the various areas so noted in blue, but this should be a relatively simple task for most of us.

The other aircraft is from VMA-332 from the USS Bairoko. This Corsair has a very colorful white nose band with red polka dots.

There is no indication as to which is the -4B version, but the references should be of help in this area. A nice features is that there are full markings to allow both aircraft to be built.
