Partnered with the Bf-109 as a fighter during the early months of the war, the Bf-110C was able to pretty well dominate its adversaries in Poland and the rest of Europe as the war progressed. Developed as a 'heavy' fighter capable of escorting bombers to the target and back, the 110 was also to be used for some ground attack with its heavy nose armament. It was also able to carry light bombs for this role.

Unfortunately, the 110 was not the aircraft it was designed to be. When it came up against the RAF in the Battle for Britian, it was painfully obvious that it was barely able to defend itself, much less the bombers it was tasked to protect. Often the 110s would be forced into a defensive circle leaving the bombers unprotected. Later Bf-109s were sent to protect the 110c which were to protect the bombers! Clearly an untenable situation.

Where air defenses were minimal, the plane performed brilliantly. It was also a very stable platform, with later versions finally finding a niche as night fighters later on in the war.

This sheet is for Bf-110Cs around the Battle for Britain time period. First in a Bf-110C-1 of 1./ZG 76 flown by later ace Helmut Lent during the Norway campaign. It is in the standard colors of the time of RLM 70/71 over 65 and carries some of Lent's kill markings on the rudder.

From the Battle for Britain time period is the next 110C from 1./ZG 52. It also carries the standard colors of RLM 70/71/65.

Finally Hptm Specht's 110c from I./ZG 26. It is in RLM 70 over RLM 65 with RLM 70 mottling on the fuselage side. It carries one of the cooler 110 nose markings of the time depicting a German plane chasing a British one. It also has a neat arrow marking on the fuselage behind it.

The only ready to go early 110 in 1/48 is the kit from Fujimi. It is an oldie, but with the help of aftermarket can be brought up to current standards.

Please note that the sheet may look a bit short as I'll often crop off common markings to save on server space.
