The Kingfisher has been a favorite amongst a certain group of modelers who like things on floats so the introduction of the 1/32 Kitty Hawk kit a while back was met with glad cries in those circles. However, to my knowledge, this is the first aftermarket decal sheet dedicated to this aircraft.

The sheet contains markings for three different aircraft in three different camouflage schemes.

The first is a true 'yellow wings' plane from Inshore Patrol Squadron VS-5D4 based at Cape May in 1941. This aircraft has the neutrality star on the forward fuselage.

Next is a plane from VO-5 aboard the USS Texas in early 1942. This plane carries the blue-grey over light grey scheme worn at the start of the war. Since it is early 1942, it still has the rudder stripes and the red dot in the middle of the insignia.

The third option is from VO-4 aboard the USS Maryland in mid 1941. At this time, the standard scheme was overall light grey with white codes.

The set includes markings for all three planes as well as a sheet that includes float stencil markings. A nice addition are the wing walk areas and the black trim stripes for the yellow wings option. The decals themselves are superbly printed by Microscale and Yellow Wings includes some of the finest instructions in the business.

So if you are as I and have not yet started on your big Kingfisher, here is a great opportunity.
