NOTES: | For the Skybow or Tamiya kits |
What with all the neat kits coming out in 1/48, it was only natural that there would be some stirrings with the aftermarket folks to provide bits and pieces for these kits. This is one from a company called Armor Scale "real armor for real models". OK.
What I can tell you is that their first item in 1/48 is a replacement barrel for the Skybow or Tamiya 1/48 Tiger I (early). Thanks to my astute visual powers, I noticed that it is the 88mm KwK 36 L/56 gun (which means nothing to me, but may well to you).
What you do get is a considerable amount of well machined and etched metal. In addition to the turned aluminum barrel, you get several bits for the muzzle brake, which is apparently a more complex assembly that I'd have thought. The instructions are quite good and show you how to put all the bits together. They also tell you how to modify the Tamiya kit to accept this barrel (which was apparently designed for the Skybow kit). Nothing major aside from some drilling.
Overall, I'd have to say this is the most detailed barrel I've seen and is worlds apart from the plastic one in the kit.
Thanks to Wings n Treads for the review set.
