NOTES: | Resin set for the Revell-Monogram kit |
Revell-Monogram's 1/48 Bf-109G-10 has been a staple for modelers for many years. When it first came out in the early 1980s, it was by far the best 1/48 109 kit on the market and the only accurate one of a later war version. Though Fujimi tried to do a nice later 109, it wasn't until the Hasegawa 109G/K kits were released in the early 1990s that there was a better molded 109.
Now I have to believe that Revell used the Planes of Fame 109G-10 as its inspiration as it was molded with the wider wheel bulges on the upper wing and the small tail wheel. This was fine as far as it went, but as luck would have it, most 109G-10s were not so equipped. From what I've read, the majority had the smaller wheel clearance bulges and a taller tail wheel. Now, Loon Models has provided new upper wings with those smaller bulges, a taller tail gear and a new set of narrower main wheels just for the Revell Kit. The wings come packaged on a section of cardboard to keep them from warping, a nice touch.
The resin is well formed though does need some cleanup prior to use. Simply remove the fine flash and smooth the edges. No instructions are provided as none are needed. These are straight replacement parts. The set is most welcome as, like probably many of you, I have at least one or two of the Revell kits in my stash. This set certainly widens the build probabilities.
