NOTES: | For the new Airfix kit |
Thanks to the recent release of a new mold Spitfire I in 1/72 scale by Airfix, Pavla has produced this very neat conversion set that allows you to make a PR Spitfire using this kit as a basis.
There are options to do three aircraft, which according to the instructions are a PR. MkIC with a deeper chin cowling and under wing pods for cameras and fuel (painted in overall PRU Blue), a PR MkIG with an extra fuel tank behind the pilot's seat in overall Pink Camotint, with an oblique camera mounting with cover, and a PR.IV with a Volkes filter in overall PRU Blue.
Pavla provides two new canopies (one with an armored windscreen), new five spoke wheels, new seats, fuel tank and a number of other bits and pieces needed for each variant. There is also a decal sheet for each aircraft option, making this a most complete conversion. The instructions show exactly what needs to be changed and you also get full color and markings information with Humbrol paint references.
All of these options will need some sort of cutting or drilling, but it is minimal and that alone makes it a great set for those wanting to try their first conversion.
