THE KIT |
This set is a pair of gunners and their machine gun. The men are posed as if they are firing the gun with one man operating the gun and the other feeding links to him. The machine gun appears to be a .30 caliber water cooled gun that was widely used and in many ways preferable to the heavier .50 caliber weapon. This was as much to the ability to carry more ammunition than for the .50. One thing that is missing from the sprue is the water container and the hose leading into the gun. You'll have to scratch build that one.
Each figure has the body divided into two legs, two arms, a torso and a head; just like us! The various equipment and packs are separate as is the figure's helmet. A look at the faces shows that the sculptor tried to get them to be different and has succeeded in doing so, something that one doesn't always find with figure sets.
The molding for the figures is quite good. Most of the large bits have a seam of varying sizes that will need to be attended to, but no ejector pin marks, no visible sink areas.
There is no instruction sheet, but on the back of the box are two views of each figure showing where the parts fit and giving color information. A parts diagram is also provided so you can identify each bit. Color information is provided with Vallejo, Tamiya, Lifecolour, Humbrol and Agama references, so you should be able to find something that will work. A really neat addition is a decal sheet with badges and insignia on them. Mine has some of them off register, which is a shame, but the rest should be quite usable. The image shown is much larger than the actual decal sheet.
CONCLUSIONS |
I have recently learned that there are quite a few people who like doing figures like this. If not for stand-alone, then together in a diorama of some sort. They definitely will add to any vehicle and appear to be pretty straight-forward in terms of construction and painting.
