HISTORY |
THE KIT |
The kit itself is remarkably well detailed on the outside. The cockpit itself is rather bare and relies on a four part pilot to fill things in. Fabric detail is a bit much with a rather saggy appearance, but it is better than most of this time. The kit suffers somewhat from a few sink marks and the usual ejector pin marks that were so common on these old kits. I should mention that there are not normally two engines and props in these kits, but I bought this one at a swap meet and didn't realize that they were not standard until after the picture was taken. A very nice option is that of an open or closed canopy. Pyro (or actually Inpact) molded the second canopy like this, a rather unusual way of doing things.
Markings are provided for a single aircraft from 73 Sq with the nice blue and yellow markings. The image has been lightened so the decal's blues are actually darker than what is shown. They are also a bit off register as you can see from the red dots in the insignia. Not sure how well they'd work after all these decades, but they are quite glossy and thin. I'd like to tell you about the instructions, but mine were missing. Fortunately, a kind reader sent me a copy and the kit is now complete!
CONCLUSIONS |
Despite the newer Roden kit, this one is still a viable alternative for those wanting a 1/48 Gladiator. Currently, Lindberg has the molds for this and other Inpact/Pyro kits and it is reissued from time to time.
